Workplace & Internship Readiness Course

Posted by admin on

School districts across the U.S. work to prepare students to be college or career ready. This often means offering students hands-on work experience in the form of service hours, internships or apprenticeships. This gives students the ability to explore career fields, see a close up view of the workplace, strengthen employability skills, and build their resume.

Corporations are often excited to offer these opportunities because it gives them a chance to identify potential future candidates and attract young adults to join their company. But companies often have several concerns including, will students show up late, act or dress inappropriately, be tied to their cell phones, or be unsafe?

Allowing students to learn workplace expectations and appropriate behaviors prior will help them prepare and gain confidence, and will help schools grow and strengthen their partnerships with local businesses.

The Workplace and Internship Readiness course was requested by schools and corporations, designed for all students in grades 9-12, and developed using essential employability skills and career preparation state standards. Students can complete the online course in 60 hours at their own pace, or during a semester.

Course topics cover the following key concepts:

  • Critical thinking and decision making
  • Multi-generation collaboration
  • Effective oral and written communication
  • Time management and prioritization
  • Being adaptable, resilient, ethical, and empathetic
  • Responsible use of social media
  • Appropriate dress and hygiene
  • Managing the first paycheck and beyond

Courses include lessons and activities with interactive features, literacy support tools, translation options, flashcards, podcasts, and assessments to help students find success.
