• Join us for a lovely evening bike ride along a coastal route that will bring us past scenic harbor, bay, and ocean views – lit first by the setting sun, and then by the rising full moon.
• We’ll ride 15 miles on Newport’s scenic roads and coastline, from downtown Newport to Fort Adams, around the beautiful Ocean Loop, and along the mansions of Bellevue Avenue. We will gather at the start of the route, Equality Park, 30 minutes before the ride begins.
• These rides have limited capacity, so be sure to pre-register on Eventbrite for our ride-planning purposes. Riders must be at least 18 years of age and have a helmet, front headlight, and rear red blinking light to participate. This is a NIGHT ride, and we will be riding on dark roads. This ride traverses downtown streets, and is suited for riders comfortable riding with traffic. Please bring a water bottle, snack, and bicycle lock. This event could be canceled due to inclement weather, so keep an eye on our social media @BikeNewportRI, or check the event page for any updates.

This year’s Festival of Dance opens with a performance (Program A) that showcases new works by Theatre Arts and Performance Studies faculty Shura Baryshnikov and J Dellecave.

Shura Baryshnikov and Providence-based cellist Adrienne Taylor will perform their co-created work Two. Interested in deeply tuning to the other, Taylor and Baryshnikov’s new work focuses on the vulnerable passage between pre-composed materials and improvisatory scoring. Within this fundamental pursuit, the duo has pursued true horizontality, creating new – common – languages and modes of understanding through the tender states revealed in patient, creative research.

J Dellecave will present an excerpt of the work-in-progress Connect Four or Railroad Legacy—an original dance theater work made in collaboration with Brooklyn-based performers Rosza Daniel Lang/Levitsky and zavé martohardjono. Through complex

walking patterns, hits and misses, and a healthy dose of restarts, this new work explores the rhythms, contours, and textures of missed connections and reconnections.

The weekend shows (Program B) feature student performers and new dances developed within course settings. Represented styles range from contemporary dance and ballet to FlexN.

Choreographers include Deidra Braz, J Dellecave, Maree Remalia, Elias Schwartz ’23, Patricia Seto-Weiss, Paul Singh, and Marc Spielberger.

Blues-rock prodigies are a special breed. They live and breathe the fiery swagger of electric guitars and the irresistible allure of rhythm-soaked sounds. That’s Clay Melton’s musical calling in a nutshell. At only 27, the Louisiana-born and Texas-based blues-rocker has already spent 14 years performing live. His powerfully raspy voice and wicked guitar licks leave no doubt he’s grown up in the school of barroom blues-rock.

Clay’s recent release, Back to Blue (July 2021), is being spun on more than 160 radio stations in the U.S. and abroad. This year’s Festival of Dance opens with a performance (Program A) that showcases new works by Theatre Arts and Performance Studies faculty Shura Baryshnikov and J Dellecave.

Shura Baryshnikov and Providence-based cellist Adrienne Taylor will perform their co-created work Two. Interested in deeply tuning to the other, Taylor and Baryshnikov’s new work focuses on the vulnerable passage between pre-composed materials and improvisatory scoring. Within this fundamental pursuit, the duo has pursued true horizontality, creating new – common – languages and modes of understanding through the tender states revealed in patient, creative research.

J Dellecave will present an excerpt of the work-in-progress Connect Four or Railroad Legacy—an original dance theater work made in collaboration with Brooklyn-based performers Rosza Daniel Lang/Levitsky and zavé martohardjono. Through complex

walking patterns, hits and misses, and a healthy dose of restarts, this new work explores the rhythms, contours, and textures of missed connections and reconnections.

The weekend shows (Program B) feature student performers and new dances developed within course settings. Represented styles range from contemporary dance and ballet to FlexN.

The 2nd Annual “Village of Matunuck Spring Stroll” takes place on Thursday, May 11^th from 5:00pm – 9:00pm. The Spring Stroll is brought to you by the Village of Matunuck family of businesses that includes Ocean Mist, The Pub, Matunuck Pizza Pie, Surfside Coffee, Matunuck Surf Shop, Point Break Cottages, and the Admiral Dewey Inn!

The Admiral Dewey Inn located on 668 Matunuck Beach Road is the newest addition to the Village of Matunuck’s family of hospitality businesses. An ECOLOGY DAY & PEACE PRAYER CEREMONY will briefly offer A Spiritual Moment to reflect on the tremendous sacrifice that America enjoys in keeping the PEACE … worldwide!

A Military Honor Guard & Calling will be conducted with area Clergy, Veterans, Police & Scouts who would graciously participate with their fellow Americans. ~ We welcome partcipants!

Also, public remembrance will take place for the Station Fire Victims in cultivating 100 flowers along the Esplanade of the Arboretum.

Volunteers can choose to assist the JAYCEES with a variety of horticultural activities such as planting flowers and shrubbery, spreading fresh mulch, watering planting beds and sprucing-up the area of the JAYCEE Corridor & Arboretum and the portal entrance to the state Senator Donald Roch RIVERWALK at the Riverpoint COMMUNITY Park @ 110 Hay Street in W. The Courthouse Welcomes Back Beach Boys -THE DRIFTWOODS. Starting out as young teens in the 1960’s the band fell in love with lush harmonies, catchy melodies and rock n’ roll rhythms of Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys. They perfected that sound and quickly became a top rock band on the RI music scene performing at high schools, colleges and radio station promotional events.

The Driftwoods have appeared on local tv programs, done studio work, released original recordings and actually sang the background vocals on John Cafferty and The Beaver Brown Band’s original 45 release ‘Wild Summer Nights’. Their performance is sure to get you up off your seats singing along to this great high energy tribute to America’s band The Beach Boys!
