  • Realme today launched the budget-orientated Realme 6i in India.
  • The phone packs a Mediatek Helio G90T chipset with a 90Hz display.
  • Available later this month, it’s priced around $175.

Realme just launched its latest affordable phone in India, the Realme 6i. Effectively a rebadged Realme 6s, it’s an exciting budget prospect, joining the company’s other affordable offerings in the country.

The Realme 6i ships with a 6.5-inch LCD with 2,400 x 1,080 resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. Realme is employing an octa-core Mediatek Helio G90T with two RAM and storage options. You can either grab a 4GB RAM model with 64GB of storage, or a 6GB RAM model with 128GB of storage in tow. Notably, Realme’s also using UFS 2.1 here. There’s also a microSD card slot too for storage expansion with dual SIM slots.

The Realme 6i features four cameras headlined by a 48MP f/1.8 primary snapper. It’s joined by an 8MP ultrawide camera, a 2MP macro camera, and a 2MP monochrome “portrait lens.” A 16MP selfie camera is mounted in a punch hole.

The phone also brings some welcome additions to the budget segment too, including a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, 3.5mm headphone port, USB-C for charging and data, and 30W Flash Charge fast charging. The latter can reportedly fill the phone’s 4,300mAh battery in just under an hour, but it’s likely because a 20W charger is included in the box.

Expect two colorways, namely Lunar White and Eclipse Black, while the body itself features a “splash-resistant design.” The phone doesn’t have an IP rating, but Realme claims its ports and loudspeaker are sealed to “effectively prevent water drop penetration.” Finally, the display is coated in Gorilla Glass 3.

Realme 6i: Pricing and availability

As for the price, the 4GB/64GB version will be available in India from July 31 for Rs 12,999 (~$173). A Rs 2,000 (~$27) premium will land you the 6GB/128GB option.

That’s pretty aggressive pricing considering the Realme 6s’ lofty price in Europe, but Realme’s forced to undercut its rivals in India’s competitive sub-Rs 15,000 segment.

If battery capacity is of more importance to you than refresh rate, the Redmi Note 9 Pro, with a 60Hz display, Snapdragon 720G, and 5,020mAh battery can be had for Rs 13,999 (~$187). Samsung’s Galaxy M series, especially the Galaxy M21 with its 6,000mAh battery, could also give the Realme 6i a tough time.

Spending slightly more should be a consideration if you’re hunting for higher refresh rates. The Rs 15,999 (~$213) Poco X2 with a 120Hz display could be an option if that’s your killer feature.
